GARLIC

My favourite herb.

Garlic is a wonderful herb for general respiratory health.

It is an immune tonic, antiviral, antibacterial and anthelmintic.

To be really effective it is best used fresh especially if you are looking for its antiviral or antibacterial activity.

As a tonic good powder is fine.

We use it in this form as an additive to our horse’s feed all the time.

The usual dose is about 1 dessertspoon a day.

There have been some press reports of garlic being toxic to horses. This seems to have arisen from an article published in the US, in which incorrect toxicity figures were quoted.

As in all things if you take enough it will harm you, but at normal conservative doses we have found no evidence of garlic being harmful.

As far as we can tell it has been fed to horses for thousands of years with out any serious problems being reported.
